CREATING AND VIEWING AN X-OUT REPORT
"X-Out" and "Z-Out" are derived from cash registers.

The terms "X-Out" and "Z-Out" are derived from cash registers whose security lock had an "X" and a "Z" position. A manager who turned his key to "X" could get a printed running total of sales dollars for the day by department, without clearing the unit's volatile memory.

For closing, another key would turn the lock around to the "Z" position, make a report of the day's totals and "zero out" the register. Any transactions after that would go onto the next day (or next shift), and the cash tray would normally be changed out. Often the register had three keys - one for a cashier to ring sales, one for a manager to run X-Outs, and one for Z-Outs which could do any of the three.

One can set dynamic dates, and include the desired range of stores, stations and clerks.

Today X-Out means a summary report of receipts for any date and time range, at one or more stores or stations. Z-Out ends the day or shift with a media count for cash control.

The first step of an X-Out is to filter the report. The system will suggest the last filter used. Alternatively one can clear the filter, or pick the system's default filter (eg, "this POS today"). One can set dynamic date ranges, such as "season to date" or "this day last year" and include the desired range of stores, stations and clerks. Then simply use the "Run" icon to produce the X-Out.

Pan Mode lets you drag the report up, down or sideways exactly as one might slide paper on a desk.

Convenient navigation icons can now move the user to any point in the report.

The four arrow buttons take one to First, Last, Next or Previous Page. The Go To button calls a page by number. The Find icon locates a character string in the report. Zoom will shift its size dimensions down or up as preferred.

Pan Mode is a great feature that lets you drag the report up, down or sideways, either by mouse or hand motion across a touch screen - exactly as one might slide paper on a desk. The icon toggles this feature on or off. Panning across the page is preferable to scroll bars, which tend to either be too thin or take up too much screen room.

Use the Export function to extend, modify or share X-Out information easily.

The Export button offers easy and rapid ways to extend, modify or share X-Out information in text or graphic form.

By exporting to Notepad one can revise or reformat the report with standard MS Office tools, and send it to Word or elsewhere.

Another option is to drop the report into a spreadsheet for relay or further operations using the power and flexibility of MS Excel.

The HTML option gives immediate browser access for distributing the report or publishing it to another machine, which will need only a browser to view it.
